Co-Constructing tele-presence by embodying avatars: evidence from Let’s Play Videos

In so called Let’s Plays, video gaming is presented and verbally commented by Let's players on the internet for an audience. When only watched but not played, most attractive features of games, immersion interactivity, get lost – at least We assume that accompanying reactions (transmitted via a so-called facecam) verbal comments Players their game audience contribute to embodiment avatars which makes watching more attractive. Following ethnomethodological conversation analytical (EMCA) approach, our paper focusses two practices embodying avatars. A first practice formulate actions in game. By that, they make experiences 'actions' transparent. Secondly, produce response cries (Goffman) reaction events. enhance liveliness Both co-construction specific kind (tele?)presence.
